Projects for Parks & City Governments/ page 1

This is one of three identical signs built for our local city
council some years ago. The arched signs on top and bottom are 2" thick routed cedar, mounted to a box built of pressure-treated 2x8. The slats in the back are 1x12 cedar. Each component in the city seal is made as a separate piece. All are made of MDO plywood, except the orange, which is carved from a block of cedar. The various components are then mounted on top of one another to create the 3D city seal. The gull is further extended out from the background with long screws run
thru pieces of aluminum tubing. The whole assembly is then mounted to clustered marine pilings. This concept doesn't really have a wide application. It's included here largely because we're proud of it.

The larger of the two signs is 16" x 48". The background, in this case, is finished with a clear latex resin. The lettering style here is basic, but we have over 1000 different styles available. A sign the size of the larger one pictured would cost $215.00. Also of interest in this photo is the support structure.    Pressure-treated 1x4 is fit into slots cut in the backs of 4x4s. This design creates a sturdy, freestanding support. The signs can then be fastened from the back

How They're Made:

Sandblasted sign faces are most often made of HDU, or high-density urethane. This material has been proven superior to redwood in long-term exterior durability. Backgrounds are sandblasted in dramatic wood grain patterns using special jigs. Structural reinforcement is included, as required, using pressure-treated lumber. All surfaces are sealed, then finished with top-quality paints and stains designed for extended outside exposure in a variety of climates.

What They Cost:

Our cost for each project is based on $60 per square foot. This cost is for a fully finished one-sided sign, designed and finished to your specifications. Signs finished on both sides are always thicker, usually include  screw-eyes or integral pressure-treated wood frames, and are generally priced at $110.00 per square foot.
