This is a relatively large, (about 4' x 8"), sandblasted redwood sign, finished on both sides. The sign face fits in slots cut into pressure-treated 4x4s, with galvanized lag bolts holding it in place. Although this photo doesn't illustrate it well, this sign is a good example of a "clustered timber" support structure, in this case 4x4. The two support the the sign, with additional shorter posts fastened on three sides. This makes for a very durable and attractive installation. |

This is a routed sign face, built of 4" thick cedar, and finished on both sides. This project is another example of a "clustered timber" support structure, in this case the timbers are 6x6. We also built a two-sided changeable message panel, and built it into the structure. The weight and bulk of these post structures makes it impractical to ship them. We can help with suggestions and instructions, but the smartest thing is to have the support structures constructed locally. |
| How They're Made: | |
Sandblasted sign faces are most often made of HDU, or high-density urethane. This material has been proven superior to redwood in long-term exterior durability. Backgrounds are sandblasted in dramatic wood grain patterns using special jigs. Structural reinforcement is included, as required, using pressure-treated lumber. All surfaces are sealed, then finished with top-quality paints and stains designed for extended outside exposure in a variety of climates. |
| What They Cost: | |
Our cost for each project is based on $60 per square foot. This cost is for a fully finished one-sided sign, designed and finished to your specifications. Signs finished on both sides are always thicker, usually include screw-eyes or integral pressure-treated wood frames, and are generally priced at $110.00 per square foot. |
