Projects for Churches/ page 5

The sign on the left is basically a double-size version of one of our L2/shape5 signs and measures 20"x 40" overall. St. Mark's church is just down the street from our shop. Their sign is 48" wide, and a good example of a nice support structure that can be built for one of these sandblasted HDU signs without too much trouble. 1" thick pressure-treated boards are dadoed into the posts on the back side, tying them together. The sign face is fastened thru these, into the back, with lots of galvanized deck screws.

How They're Made:

Sandblasted sign faces are most often made of HDU, or high-density urethane. This material has been proven superior to redwood in long-term exterior durability. Backgrounds are sandblasted in dramatic wood grain patterns using special jigs. Structural reinforcement is included, as required, using pressure-treated lumber. All surfaces are sealed, then finished with top-quality paints and stains designed for extended outside exposure in a variety of climates.

What They Cost:

Our cost for each project is based on $60 per square foot. This cost is for a fully finished one-sided sign, designed and finished to your specifications. Signs finished on both sides are always thicker, usually include  screw-eyes or integral pressure-treated wood frames, and are generally priced at $110.00 per square foot.
